Confirm the actual clay type

Different materials require different drying, baking or kiln processes. Use what the session specifies rather than a random substitute.

An online clay workshop is a live guided making experience, but material requirements depend on the specific session. Air-dry clay, polymer clay and kiln-fired ceramic clay have different properties and cannot be substituted without checking instructions.

Protect the table

Cover the work surface, provide a stable space for tools and keep water or cleanup materials available as directed.

Follow the demonstration in stages

Build the body first, then add handles and decorative features. Save detailed ornament for after structural stability is established.

Handbuilding a small cauldron can be taught through pinch and coil methods. The structural concepts—stable bottom, consistent walls and secure attachments—remain useful even when the material is not traditional fired ceramic clay.

Put the idea into practice

At Color Cocktail Factory, the corresponding activity page is the best place to verify sessions for the available Chicago, Eugene, or online location listed for the specific session. Select the correct studio or online format and check the live booking calendar, ticket unit, current price, age policy, and included supplies. If your project uses clay, kiln firing and glazing may be separately priced; check finishing and pickup terms before paying. Schedules can differ by location and over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does every online clay workshop require a pottery kiln?

No. Requirements depend on the chosen material and the exact class instructions.

Do I need a kiln at home?

Check the current session's materials and finishing plan. Air-dry clay is not equivalent to fired ceramic clay.

Does a class ticket include a shipped kit?

Do not assume it does. Confirm required materials, shipping, and time zones with the current listing.
